The Infiltrator does a lot of damage with Sniper Rifles, but it has a difficult time defending itself in close-to-medium range.As an added bonus, the Infiltrator's Incinerate ability is almost universally useful and should be a high priority to upgrade. To be fair, the Infiltrator is probably the class that makes Insanity the easiest. Time slows when they look through the scope, and they receive high damage bonuses for firing while cloaked and landing headshots. Infiltrators are built to stand back and pick off the enemies one at a time, and it can do this as a result of its cloaking ability, which allows it to escape the auspices of enemy surveillance while lining up a deadly headshot through a sniper scope. This is a must, as the Widow is the highest damage-per-bullet weapon in the game. And aside from the Soldier, it is the only class that can get the Widow Anti-Matter Sniper Rifle late in the game. The Infiltrator has access to Sniper Rifles.One final note about the Vanguard: It is certainly my favorite class. Shockwave is close to useless on the higher difficulties, and Pull necessitates the enemy being completely stripped of its defenses, and in the situations where the enemy doesn't have any shields/barriers/armor, you're just better off shooting the thing to death.
Moreover, the extra biotics you have at your disposal as a Vanguard aren't necessarily the greatest biotics in the game. It's fun, and very rewarding, but you'll die a lot getting a handle on its potential. Playing a Vanguard is about knowing the mechanics like the back of your hand, and knowing what teammates you want with you at all times. On Normal, the Vanguard rips through just about everything without much trouble, but on Hardcore and Insanity, the Vanguard has trouble staying alive.

Though the Charge grants you free, full shielding, the move doesn't recharge instantaneously, and you as the player need to be able to discern a viable target from a crowd in order to survive. Despite being an offensive powerhouse, the Vanguard itself has very little health, which means getting caught in the open with several enemies bearing down on you is going to lead to a quick death. The Vanguard's playstyle is a constant risk assessment.A savvy Vanguard can and will dominate the battlefield. On top of the Charge/Shotgun combo, the Vanguard comes fitted with Incendiary ammo (which, as we said earlier, works wonders against beefy, organic enemies) and a few extra biotic powers. The Charge gives Shepard full shields every time it is used, which means the Vanguard must stay mobile, but if you can tame the incredible power of the Vanguard, then it is a wrecking ball that can wipe the floor with literally every enemy in the game. Combining your Vanguard Charge with an ammo-equipped shotgun is the Vanguard's bread and butter, and this is a great tactic late in the game (and on higher difficulties) when you have the Charge fully upgraded. Where the Soldier is the most versatile damage dealer, a focused Vanguard is the most destructive damage dealer.Obviously, the Soldier's sheer damage output counters this to an extent, but you're going to want to have a caster in your squad at all times so that you can handle some of the bigger, beefier enemies down the road. Concussive shot is useful on the default difficulty, since few enemies have shielding or barriers, but on the higher difficulties, Soldiers have trouble quickly taking down some enemy defenses. And if you're just looking to be a tank/damage-dealer, then Incendiary ammo is the way you're going to go. Furthermore, they come loaded with Disruptor, Incendiary, and Cryo ammo. Their Adrenaline Rush ability also grants them the ability to slow time and pick off enemies with increased damage. The Soldier is probably the most versatile offensive class since they can utilize both close-range and long-range weaponry with optimal efficiency.
